Iona, others barred from meet by Section I ruling
Heading into Sunday’s Westchester County Track Championships, there was unusually little talk surrounding what area athletes would emerge as stars on one of the biggest stages of the season. Instead, most of the pre-meet discussion had centered on Section I’s controversial decision to ban four private school teams—including perennial power Iona Prep.
Iona, along with Hackley, Stepinac and Holy Child were barred from the event ostensibly because they aren’t considered members of the Section I organization. According to Section I Executive Director Jennifer Simmons, it was brought to light that these private schools did not pay a fee to compete in the winter county meet (which was taken over by Section I nearly a decade ago) but were still eligible to compete in fall and spring events that are co-sponsored by the Coaches’ Association. |

Equity Land Developers: Plan 5 years in the making Equity Land Developers is proposing to build a multi-residential condominium community on Burling Lane. The proposal includes 22 two-bedroom units, seven one-bedroom units and will offer onsite parking.
“When I look to do a project I look at the trends and how we can take advantage of them,” explained Anthony Hammel, principal of Equity Land Developers. “There is a consumer shift to value that cuts across all ages and income groups. This building is to help consumers with value and provide extra benefits in order to move forward.” |

With Haiti devastated from an earthquake that measured 7.0 on the Richter scale, New Rochelleans are rallying to help. Though the Haitian city of Port au-Prince is located over 1,500 miles from the Queen City of the Sound, it is still on the radar of the city’s residents and businesses. On Monday, Knotz Hair Studio contributed to the cause through a program called “Haircuts for Haiti.”
