Tight end to join former Huguenot on Yellow Jackets
On Feb. 2, New Rochelle standout Anthony Caldararo sat down in front of his friends, family, teammates and coaches to make a momentous decision about where he would spend the next four years of his life. As it turns out, he’d like those next four to be as similar to his last three as possible.
After months of weighing his options, Caldararo announced that he will be taking his talents to Division II’s American International College in Massachusetts, in part, because it felt like home.
Weighing offers from other schools including New Haven, Caldararo chose the Massachusetts institution because it reminded him of the program and community he had been a part of for the last three years.
“I went up there for my official visit and I just knew,” said Caldararo. “Plus, [head coach] Art Wilkins came to see me before I went up there, and he reminded me a lot of [Huguenots head coach Lou] DiRienzo.”
In fact, Caldararo won’t be the only former Huguenot on the roster next year, as Markel Rice (Class of 2008) plays in the defensive secondary. A host of other Section I stars have also found homes in the AIC program, including Tuckahoe’s John Jubilee and Roosevelt High School’s Sir Parrish.

A graduation event held on Saturday Feb. 11, celebrated the successful completion of the first session of the New Rochelle Communities For All Ages Intergenerational Leadership Academy. Forty New Rochelle residents, ranging in age from 11 years to 75 years, completed the 18-hour academy. All were present to receive praise and certificates at the luncheon event hosted by Gwen and Alvin Clayton at Alvin & Friends Restaurant in New Rochelle. The leadership academy brought together individuals of all ages and from all segments of the city to engage in capacity-building and training that focused on maximizing community resources, and how to use intergenerational strategies as a means to work for community change. This was the first in a series of leadership academies and multi-generational programs that will be conducted by New Rochelle Communities For All Ages in the coming years.
