Jamillah Blair, 29, an officer of the New Rochelle Police Department, was arrested on the northbound side of the Hutchinson River Parkway near Wolfs Lane in Pelham on Tuesday at 3:13 a.m. She is charged with driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, both misdemeanors.

According to a police report obtained from Westchester County Police spokesman Kieran O’Leary, Blair was driving a 2004 Cadillac SUV on the wrong side of the road and collided head-on with a 2010 Chevrolet sedan driven by a 45-year-old Yonkers man. Blair allegedly left the car at the scene and proceeded to leave on foot. County police responded to the home of the vehicle’s registered owner where Blair was located a short time later.

The 45-year-old Yonkers man, whose name has not been released, was taken to Jacobi Hospital in the Bronx with non-life threatening chest injuries. Blair was booked at the county police headquarters in Hawthorne and is scheduled to appear in Pelham Town Court on Thursday, March 11. She was released without bail.

New Rochelle Police Commissioner Patrick Carroll stated that this is the only such case involving an NRPD employee on record.

“This was an off-duty incident which was unfortunate,” Carroll said. “It will be played out in the courts and the NRPD will deal with the officer at the conclusion of the case.”

Blair has been suspended without pay. By law the suspension will last no longer than 30 days.
